Here We Go Again 04/23/2012
Our pre-season briefing went to plan in the Indian - Accusations and recriminations were tossed backwards and forwards until the Bangla soaked in and Henry started to share the love. The boat's now serviced, the hull needs to be repaired and then we will be ready to go. Oh and all our regs are away for servicing at Apeks so we will need those.... Apologies for not updating this blog. We have now completed ca. 30 North Sea dives and conditions are still pretty good. Yesterday we dived a small unknown wreck just off Sea Palling. WE reckon it must have been some kind of tanker. Vis was 6 meters when we weren't messing about and the sea was flat. Apologies to the PADI's who decided to dive with us and couldn't see a thing when we stirred up the bottom. Latest Diving Conditions 04/06/2011
Diving has started now, we've had reports of visibility ranging between 1 meter 12 miles North of Sea Palling, and 3 meters 10 miles North of Sea Palling. To Bilge or Not to bilge? 04/05/2011
After a reasonably messy evening at the Curry House (The Oasis in Norwich (recommended)); that's beer not Henry's shirt, which actually was messy, our thoughts turned as always to the dive season and preparations required to the boat. A suggestion was tabled that we should fit a bilge to the boat. However, the camp was divided between those of us sensible types who want to be able to empty the boat at a standstill, and those who don't. I proposed an on-line vote which I will attempt to put on the site. If there is a link here then you know I've managed it so please let us know your opinion. Rob. Loose Lips Sink Ships 03/11/2011
Well, having decided on Malta and investigating the prices availability etc I contacted the dive centre in Malta. Still too early to tell her indoors I thought, that is until the dive centre called this morning after I had left for work to discuss my "booking". Next thing I get a call asking why the news of the trip has been broken by a stranger in Malta. Not to worry all booked now for May and a call to Thomson confirmed that we get an extra 5kg allowance as divers. It's a shame they didn't tell us before the last trip to Cape Verde....... I've heard of the Thomson book in staff not knowing about the extra allowance, has anybody else had that experience? Rob. Are we nearly there yet? 03/08/2011
Just had a long conversation with a fellow North Sea diver. He told me that he went out at the weekend and got 4 meters visibility, but the water was only 4 degrees. Having got me all excited, it turns out that the only correct information was the water temperature. The vis is still dreadful. In light of this I am now looking at a warm dive holiday somewhere. One of the first signs of the impending dive season is our annual pilgrimage to the Dive show. Normally we go to the show at the Excel Centre in March, however on Saturday we went to the new show at Olympia. The Show was a lot smaller than the others at the NEC in Birmingham and the Excel in London, but it had the same attractions and the advantage of being held in a location that was a bit more central. Being slightly early it had the same effect on us as an extra warm weekend has on bulbs in the garden. We retired to the pub after the show and spent many hours over many pints doing what all divers do best; we chose the sites we should visit first this year season, the best dives of last season, the biggest mistakes of last season/ever. Anyway with a thick head on Sunday i realise that we are in fact many weeks away from getting in the North Sea. First Post! 03/03/2011
